I plan on replacing my crown and filling due to a bad odor - what can I do to verify which tooth the smell is coming from?

I have a metal dental crown for 5 years now and beaide that is a tooth with filling for 12 years now. I smell a bad odor between the 2 and want to address it. The problem is how do I make sure which of the 2 is the main problem before I do the procedure of replacement? Thank you.
