Can you take off your compression garment after Vaser Lipo to clean up & will it effect the outcome/results?

Hello and thank you for this question. In our practice following liposuction I would like the patient to wear the garment for approximately 4 weeks. We give the patient's several garments and they can alternate with them. It is okay to come out of the garments while you shower but I certainly would recommend leaving them on the majority of time. This will help with swelling. I would recommend you discussed this with her treating surgeon. Best of luck with your recovery.

Can you Wash your Compression Garment? The short answer is yes. Make sure it is either air dried (roll in a dry towel first) or in dryer on room air temperature to prevent changing the characteristics of your garmentIf you have had suction of the knees, thigh, arms, or abdomen, the doctor will have put on a compression garment at the end of the surgery. The extra pressure this garment provides helps reduce swelling and discomfort. You should not remove this garment at all until the second or third day after surgery. After that, feel free to remove the garment temporarily for laundering. We want you to have circumferential pressure for 4-6 weeks, but you may switch to an exercise garment (Lycra or Spandex) whenever it feels comfortable to slip it on or off, as you will have to do so in order to go to the bathroom, wash your garment or shower. I am very suprised this was not reviewed with you prior to your surgery.  My patients have a packet of information and 1 hour time with my consultant to go over all the pre and post operative care and expectations.  You should have your compression on 24/7 for 7-10 days and only change it for cleaning and daily change.  Afterwards you should continue nightly compression for 7-10 more days with Spanx during the day.  However, every physician has their own protocol and you should speak to your physician if you are not sure what they requested you do.  Best, Dr. Emer.
