I had an implant several years ago. Lower front tooth. It sits back a bit from my other teeth. It has been uncomfortable and painful from the beginning. I constantly put oral pain medicine on it. At my wits end. Dentist thinks I'm crazy.
Answer: Removing a dental implant A dental implant should not cause any discomfort. From your description, it sounds as though your discomfort may be coming from the fact that the implant was placed in such a way that the crown on top of it does not allow for the gums to be cleaned properly. This could be causing you discomfort. Before you consider removing the dental implant which could be a very extensive procedure, consider having the crown redone or reshaped.I hope you found this information be helpful,Dr. Champagne

Answer: Removing dental implant Hello, If the implant is causing too much trouble it is best to remove it. Then, the dentist can evaluate if the 2 teeth that will hold the bridge are strong and healthy enough to build the bridge.

Answer: Pain is Priority If you are in pain, you should do something. Sounds like they had to "sink" your implant due to loss of bone height...there isn't a great amount of bone width in that area. This puts all the connections etc close to the floor of your mouth where there are a lot of tissue pulling and hence irritation. A thought would be to bury the implant (remove the tooth portion/supra structure) and suture the gum tissue over. If that works, just do your bridge or cantilever crown or Maryland Bridge over the gum, leaving the integrated implant....you could use it later or it would just keep the bone from deteriorating. Post pics!
