Lip filler won’t completely dissolve - what else can I do? (photos)

Hi! I’m searching for answers on my lip filler that just won’t go away. My lips were overfilled with HA filler in Aug 2020 but since everyone was wearing masks I figured I’d let it dissolve on it’s own. Finally in March 2021 I decided to have Hyaluronidase injected bc my lips looked terrible. Went back a month later for a 2nd treatment and still was unhappy. Went to a 2nd doctor and he tried dissolving 4 more times. Went to a 3rd doctor and she also tried Hyaluronidase. That’s 7x and counting.

Hyaluronidase enzyme continues to be an excellent option for patients with fillers that need to be dissolved. Fillers can swell and migrate unpredictably, especially when a filler with a high-edema quotient is used in thin areas. Our office uses disciplined approaches to help patients with acute or chronic issues related to hyaluronic acid fillers. We begin by assessing for any tissue compromise and advocate early treatment to avoid complications with vascular occlusion. In chronic issues, it is important to gradually break up and dissolve filler so there is no further migration of loose filler substrate. Conservative staged dilution may also help avoid volume loss. If the filler is not dissolving, we may consider stronger concentrations or surgery.

Your lips look better now compared to the second photo, and they look close to your baseline. Hyaluronidase can dissolve natural HA in your skin and cause skin indentations, but based on your photos, most people likely do not realize you had any lip work performed. The best advice is to stay away from hyaluronidase and see where things settle. If you are there now, you may consider consulting a lip aug expert about the feasibility of filling visible indentations. Hope this helps. Dr Joseph
