Is a 2nd shed at 8 months post-op hair-transplant normal?

It seems like I’m experiencing a second shed at around the 8 month mark. Is something like this normal? The transplanted hair is still very wiry. I’m assuming it will get better in the next few months, but assumed the hair would be healthier and fuller by now.

In fact, a second shedding phase at the eight-month mark is not a very common occurrence.

Post-operative shedding typically begins two to four weeks after the hair transplant, the trauma associated with the procedure causes follicles to transition from the anagen phase to the telogen phase, resulting in hair loss, followed by the resumption of growth after a three-month period.

Temporary fluctuations in density at the eight-month mark are biologically possible. Not every transplanted follicle re-enters the anagen phase on the same day following the operation, and follicles eventually revert to their own independent hair cycles. In a normal scalp, approximately 5–10% of follicles are in the telogen phase at any given time, and this phase lasts about two to three months. Therefore, the shedding of some new hair does not necessarily indicate graft loss.

The appropriate course of action here is an examination using a trichoscope.
Additionally, the shedding of existing hair may continue, androgenetic alopecia may progress, and further medical treatments might be required.

The shedding at 8 months can happen rarely for the existing hairs. The hair will grow back. You need to contact your doctor so he can analyze that and recommend you a treatment.
For the transplanted hair will get thicker after 8 months post-op. the final result shows between 12-14 months.
