I have a bit of an overbite and a weak chin. I am not overweight and am in my early thirties but have a double chin and undefined jaw line. I also don't like that my face is round and short, especially when I smile. I did a sleep study a few years ago because I have trouble getting restful sleep. I did not have sleep apnea but my Respiratory Disturbance Index was 17 per hour. Still, I find I sleep enough yet am tired throughout the day. I am undergoing invisalign treatment and I believe they said I have class 2 malocclusion. I spoke to a surgeon and he suggested double jaw surgery with a genioplasty. Another option is genio alone. I would rather do all at once as I have more time for recovery now than in the future. What do you guys suggest?

You are a candidate for both surgeries, which are very different. Genioplasty alone is a cosmetic procedure that will solely improve facial appearance. The procedure is performed in the office and recovery is 3-5 days. Double jaw surgery is performed in the hospital and requires braces, may include genioplasty and there is a minimum of 2 weeks of initial recovery. If you are only concerned with aesthetics, then a genioplasty might be for you. Double jaw surgery involves changes to your bite and teeth. Most of my patients have no trouble masticating food and are mainly concerned with how they look and the appearance of their chin.

Without in person evaluation it would be impossible to give you final suggestion. However, considering how small your jaws are on these photos, it is very likely that bimaxillary surgery ((two jaws) would be a better option as an overall solution. Genioplasty should be also considered a part of this complex procedure. Good luck.
