Should I stop taking my antidepressant SSRI meds before and after RF microneedling given they could increase risk of bleeding?

Hi, I have an upcoming RF microneedling session scheduled and I was wondering if SSRIs should be stopped before and after the session. If so, exactly how many days should I stop taking them before my procedure? And for how long after? My psychologist told me SSRIs on paper can inhibit clot formation because of serotonin. Is this relevant in the case of micro needling with Radiofrequency? Thank You

Hello and thank you for your question. I don’t advise you to stop your antidepressant medication for any reason. I suggest speaking to either your family doctor or the doctor who is performing the RF Microneedling about any possible risks or interactions. Best of luck to you.

Hi, based on the literature it is proven that SSRIs make skin more sensitive to sunlight.One may expand this and interpret it as SSRI= Hypersensitive skin, then you may think I should stop it before my procedure, but there is more into it, discontinuing a prescription medication may increase other risks ( like relapsing depression) and from the other side in a paper it is shown that the risk of the bleeding is low. Although it seems you dont need to discontinue your SSRI before RF microneedling, please check with however is doing the procedure to make sure they are OK with.
