Hi and thank you for your question! PRP can be considered as a possible alternative to finasteride for hair loss but best results are often achieved when the 2 are combined. If you have had side effects from finasteride, another option to consider can be Minoxidil with can be take together with doing PRP and combining the two can greatly support hair growth. In general, most people with androgenetic (normal aging) can be treated with in office treatments like steroid injections, PRP/Acell, Exosomes and at home treatments like oral medications like Finasteride or Spironolactone, oral vitamins like Viviscal, topical exfoliating sprays like Restorsea, and weekly growth factors like anteagemd. See an expert for an evaluation. If hair loss is significant it may requires hair transplant (follicular unit translation).

So finasteride is currently fda approved for treatment of male pattern balding but prp is not although there is alot of good clinical data supporting that it works for male pattern balding. As for the side effects with finasteride you have to speak to your doctor and see what is best for you. There is a population of patients who do experience post finasteride syndrome.

PRP can help some patients preserve hair or slow down the hair loss. Unfortunately, you have negative side effects with the Finasteride. You may want to consider Low Level Laser Therapy and or Minoxidil as alternative treatments as well. PRP is a better solution to hair loss than finasteride. Studies have shown increased density with PRP than finasteride and there are no side effects from PRP injections.

Although PRP can leave the quality of your hair by making improvements on the cell level, it can do nothing to defend the hair cells from further disruption from DHT. In fact, it is Finasteride that will lower the levels of DHT and make the hairs degrade less.
Furthermore, you want to switch to liquid finasteride. This is very safe. Liquid finasteride works as well as oral finasteride, but it has no side effects since it is applied to locale.
In my office, there have been no confirmed cases of finasteride sides after I switched to topical finasteride.

Finasteride is a known drug with known benefits approved by the FDA while PRP is a variable injection that is inconsistent between doctors, is not proven effective and has not shown absolute value. It is also not approved by the FDA.
