I'm 2 weeks post op,I've had 4 lymphatic massages so far and really feel no change and the cost is quite expensive. Is it a requirement/necessity to get these massages for my numb and swollen stomach/lower back to subside? Massage therapist said Yes or else I'll have a hard numb stomach forever!! So scared I need answers :(
Answer: Massage after surgery Thank you for your question. The idea of a massage is to help healing. Listen to your plastic surgeon as to what he/she recommends for your healing process. To support the comfort and recovery of patients after surgery, a post-surgical massage is designed to speed the healing process and help you return to your normal daily activities more quickly. Using a lymphatic massage technique, a skilled licensed massage therapist use gentle stretching and range of movement motions throughout this massage to provide the following benefits: • Reduce swelling and bruising• Improve flexibility• Stimulate nerve endings to diminish numbness and any skin sensitivityHope this helps,Dr. Newall

Answer: Lymphatic massages after tummy tuck Dear caligirl07, I wouldn't recommend you a lymphatic massages until you are fully healed after a tummy tuck surgery. It might be helpful in case of liposuction but you should avoid it shortly after a tummy tuck. You should consult with your plastic surgeon. Answer: Emphatic massage after tummy tuck/lipo op. Is it a requirement? Thank you for your question! Lymphatic massage is a temporary measure to reduce swelling and has no long term benefits only short term. Most patients do not do lymphatic massage and do just fine. The numbness and swelling will resolve over the next 4-8 months and will not be affected long term by lymphatic massage.
