I am having a hysterectomy (TLH) on Oct 23. I would like to have a breast reduction over the xmas break, so around 2 months later. I'm healthy, exercise regularly and 39 years old. Is this safe for me to have surgeries this close together?
Answer: Time I would wait 1-2 months after hysterectomy. I recommend an in-office examination as well as a detailed discussion with a surgeon who you are comfortable with. Finally, make sure your surgeon is a Double-Board Certified Plastic Surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Answer: How long can I wait to have a breast reduction after hysterectomy? The length of time after a hysterectomy until you can have breast reduction depends on a few factors, the most important ones being the recommendations of your ob-gyn and the plastic surgeon who will be performing the procedure. Your health and post-operative course after the hysterectomy will also influence this. In general, if you are healthy and your postoperative course is totally uneventful, my recommendations would be to wait 3 to 6 months which allows you to recuperate, heal and maximize your nutritional state for the breast reduction.Steven Turkeltaub, MD
