Should I be using Neosporin on the site of incision from a Liposuction?

Should I be using neosporin on the site of incision? I have a stitch at each incision. Will neosporin help prevent scarring?

Please follow your surgeon's instruction on incision care. No matter what you use, scarring will result. However, to minimize its appearance, you can use silicone cream or sheeting once the steristrips have fallen off and the incision is no longer crusty or scabby. You should also keep the incisions protected from the sun because tanning them can make them permanently darker.

I typically have my patients use biocorneum and aquaphor or vaseline.  I stay away from neosprin as some patients develop allergies.  Best, Dr. Emer.

The use of Neosporin probably will not help or hinder wound healing. You should however follow the instructions of your surgeon.

Neosporin could be used on your liposuction incisions.  This will help prevent infection and the scab from the incision should lift off sooner.  Neosporin won't prevent scarring, but usually the scars from liposuction incisions are quite minimal.Please discuss your concerns with your surgeon who is the best to advise you.Best wishes for your recovery!

Silicone products, tape etc...proved to be the best options for scar healing. Neosporin does not affect wound healing. It is better to check with your plastic surgeon and follow his routine.
