Are Intima treatments painful?

This procedure requires no anesthesia; however, I will usually have patients numb the outside area prior to the treatment for improved comfort. There is virtually no downtime with this procedure. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and you can return to normal activities directly following the procedure but should refrain from sexual activity for 5-7 days. Most patients will see significant results after the first treatment. We recommend a total of 3 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart for maximum results. It is important to consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon regarding any cosmetic procedure.

Hi.  The inside of the vagina is not painful.  However if the treatment is being done for vaginal atrophy, the opening may be narrow.  In this case, the numbing cream really helps to enter the vaginal canal.  Once the treatment is initiated, the treatment is very well tolerated.

The internal treatment for the vagina is pain free. The external treatment does have a bit more zip to it; it feels like a light sting associated with some heat which subsides within 2 hours. Patients state the pain associated with external Intima treatment is 3 - 5 on a scale of 0 - 10. 

Thanks for the question.  The internal vaginal treatment with Intima is not painful at all.  Most of our patients say they hardly felt it, and describe it as a warm feeling inside.  It is a fairly quick treatment lasting only about 15 minutes.  The external genital treatment is done only after a topical numbing is applied and that minimizes the pain to a very tolerable level and most people say it was easily tolerable for them.  I wouldn't hesitate having the procedure because of worry about pain.  Hope that helps.

there is no discomfort with treating the internal genitalia with the device. I will use topical numbing cream however to treat the external genitalia.

Thank you for your question! The procedure only lasts 10-20 minutes, and there is minimal to no discomfort thanks to topical numbing cream. Most numbing creams are effective within 30-60 minutes. The results are extremely long lasting and since it’s non-surgical, my patients describe the experience as little to no discomfort. I recommend scheduling a consultation with a board-certified physician to ensure you’re the right candidate.  
 

You are not alone to ask this question... Is Intima CORE laser painful? Many of my patients inquire this during the consultation. Speaking practical as well as personal experience of Intima, the part of internal vaginal treatment is not painful, its very similar to a gyn exam-like experience. For external vaginal and genital area, its is hot and uncomfortable and numbing cream prior to treatment is highly recommended. BTW if the plan is to treat urinary stress incontinence, treatment of the peri-urethral area, which is external part of the treatment is advisable. So prepare with necessary numbing cream which physician should provide prior to the treatment. Good luck! Dr. B
