How long does the swelling usually lasts right after Bellafill injections for smile lines?

Thank you for your question. Downtime is 2 weeks. Most patients will experience swelling and bruising for the first couple of days which can last up to two weeks.

Bellafill and Artefill are known to cause granulomas. Although used for soft tissue augmentation, they can, and are known to cause permanent nodules and swelling. This is not the case for everyone. 
My office specializes in the removal of Bellafill and Artefill injections, in addition to silicone biopolymers, from the face and body. Initially, treatments are non-surgical with corticosteroids and immune modulators. If unable to be corrected, we can also perform surgery in some cases. 
Lastly, our office is conducting ongoing studies of plasma-assisted corticosteroid application, which allows for diffusion of the treatment medication in superficial tissue without causing atrophy.

Thank you for your question. Swelling can occur for a few hours after treatment but this varies from patient to patient. You may be able to use Motrin to relieve the swelling. Radiesse is a great option for you since results have been shown to last a year or more in many patients, making the treatment long-lasting. The amount of swelling that someone might get after a filler injection, such as Bellafill, can vary.  I would say in most cases when there is some swelling after the injection, that it usually goes away within a day or two.  I find that Radiesse does work well for augmenting the chin, but the result is not permanent.  I would say the results could last a year or so.  

Thank you for contacting us.This is always a question worth asking with any filler. Unlike the often noticeable temporary swelling from Restylane or Juvederm, my experience  going back to our FDA trials has shown essentially no temporary swelling with Bellafill by patient or physician assessment, because of the absence of hyaluronic acid. Regarding Radiesse: it generally lasts a bout 12-18 months &,, since it is essentially synthetic bone substance, is excellent for chin & cheekbone augmentation. Radiesse effects are only partially dissolvable by local steroid injections: this is rarely done by most physicians. Bellafill can be used also in these areas with similar benefit but longer ( 5+ years )duration.

I’m currently in my 7th year of using Bellafill and have performed over 3500 syringes. The FDA study which followed over 1000 patients showed a granuloma rate of 1% with all granulomas resolving with conservative, non-surgical treatment. In my practice. I have only had 2 granulomas which also resolved with conservative treatment. Bellafill is extremely safe if, and only if, it is injected by highly experienced hands. A BellaDiamond injector is the gold standard and you may want to consider having your Bellafill treatment by a BellaDiamond injector who has extensive experience with Bellafill.

In my practice, swelling in the nasolabial fold area after Bellafill treatment is mild to moderate typically long lasting 1-3 days. However, I use micro-cannulas for all Bellafill treatments. Micro-cannulas are less traumatic than standard injection needles and associated with less swelling, less bruising and less discomfort. Micro-cannulas are also safer, making them less likely to inadvertently enter a blood vessel, unlike needles. To assure the most optimal results from your Bellafill treatment, I would consider a BellaDiamond injector who is using micro-cannulas.

As far as your chin goes, you can use Radiesse which typically lasts 12 to 18 months if a sufficient amount is used. I most commonly use Bellafill for chin augmentation which works just as well as Radiesse but can last up to 5 times longer due to Bellafill’s 5 year duration.

Swelling can last a few days, up to a week in some cases. It varies from patient to patient. Radiesse is semipermanent, creating collagen to extend its results. There is a dissolver now for Radiesse called Sodium Thiosulfate. I don't have experience with it yet but it is supposed to take multiple treatments.

Thank you for your question. Swelling is a very individual response regardless of the filler being used. Some patients experience virtually no swelling while others may have significant swelling for up to 5 days following injections. With regard to Radiesse for chin augmentation, this is not a semi-permanent filler and the results generally last 18-24 months.
