I am a male and I am trying to figure out if my cheeks have the proper width to them. How do surgeons evaluate this and what proportions do they look for?

Answer: How can I determine if my cheeks are too wide or too narrow? Hi, based upon the beauty aesthetics published in my book on the subject, male facial features should add angularity, to the face, to create what is perceived as a ruggedly handsome look. This means cheeks that are more narrow and pronounced than women's (that should be full and round in the front). There are ways to measure the cheeks, in men, outlined in my book and web site for you to review. You can always e-mail us non-smiling face photos from the front and back for review. Cheek augmentation with a dermal filler (I prefer Perlane now called Restylane Lyft) or with cheek implants for a permanent enhancement can shape the cheeks so they add angularity to the face. Following that, the chin should have a certain level of volume and the jaw line should be "flared" all of which ads to the facial angularity. IMHO, when shaping or contouring the face with dermal fillers of facial implants it's imperative to understand what facial shape you are attempting to create. In men, it's an angular rectangular or square face while in women it's one with a heart-shape. Two very different looks and the plastic & cosmetic surgeon "must" know how to create and or enhance, what each patient presents with, into the most naturally attractive facial shape. Experience injecting dermal fillers or placing implants is simply not enough if they lack the required aesthetic, beauty vision. Hope this helps.
