Hi there! I'm debating between CO2 fractional laser and micro needling for my acne scars. Micro needling seems a little bit more appealing because of the shorter recovery time. Which treatment would give me the best results?
Answer: Acne Scars I believe the number of treatments over time is more important than a single aggressive treatment. Microneedling with PRP can be done less expensively and therefore lends itself better to repeat procedures which is the key to a long term result.

Answer: Recommend TCA cross paired with CO2 laser for the icepick scarring Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: CO2 Fractional Laser vs. Microneedling for Acne Scars? Combination Therapy Works Best for Scars Scars can be improved considerably, but not always resolved. Instead of wondering which type of procedure to go for, spend some time finding an expert dermatologist who specializes in resurfacing the skin and treating scars. Most of the time, a combination approach that includes both Fraxel or another laser and microneedling works best. Be sure to consult a board-certified dermatologist who will spend time analyzing your skin and coming up with the optimum treatment plan.

Answer: Acne scar treatment I appreciate the question and the photos, they are very helpful. Acne scars can be very distressing and effect how we feel in the presence of others. I understand that microneedling has less downtime and can achieve good results, but some of the deeper ice-pick scars may not respond. If you are considering a bit more expensive and increased downtime I would consider lasers. I would recommend that you look into either laser (such as Deep Fx/Active Fx). As others have stated you will need several treatments so which ever treatment fits your budget and time may be best. I would recommend seeing a Board Certified Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon for a consultation prior to choosing.

Answer: Acne scar treatment Dear Angelamnq,I would certainly have to examine you but in general, treating acne and the scars takes a comprehensive approach. There are a variety of ways to treat the scars . A good first step is to get on a skin care regiment that normalizes and conditions your skin such as ZO Skin Health. The next step that is relatively inexpensive is a peel or series of peels. The next step up would be laser resurfacing such as fraxel. Even with laser, some of the "ice-pick" scars still subsist and remain. I've found in my practice that local subscision, using a needle to elevate the scar followed by fat grafting gives the best results for these deeper acne scarsDaniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am.
