i have been reading some of the questions and answers, but is a 53 year old a good candidate? because from what i am reading if they remove too much when people get older, may not look good. please advise. i have been considering this procedure but if is not going to enhance my appearance, i rather not do it.
Answer: Buccal Fat Excision and Aging If you're a candidate, buccal fat removal can give you great results. Buccal fat excision is an appropriate surgical procedure for patients that of overly full and wide cheek areas. In common terms, it is good for patients who have chipmunk cheeks. Liposuction can be used to further slim the face. You are a patient that would need an in person consultation for a complete evaluation and explanation of the positives and negatives of these procedures in your situation. I hope this helps.

Answer: Buccal fat removal on a 53 year old lady? = yes, it can be done and look younger at the same time #buccalfatremoval A lot of patients, specially people in their 50s and above are hesitant to undergo buccal fat removal because the believe that this procedure could make them look old. The problem of looking old after buccal fat removal is NOT the removal of the fat but the cheek bones. Cheek bones are the foundation of the face. As we age, the cheek bones get smaller, therefore making the face to sag. When buccal fat removal is performed in patients with WEAK cheek bones, they would look aged. However if the cheekbones are enhanced before or at the time of surgery. the patients would look refreshed, younger and without chubby cheeks. In my practice I commonly do buccal fat removal in patients in their 50s, but very often I enhance their cheek bones just before the procedure with soft tissue filler like Voluma. Answer: Buccal Fat Removal in 53 year old woman Buccal fat surgery is appropriate for some patients and not for others. Factors to consider are: their overall goals, skin tone of the face, the amount of facial fat present, overall facial anatomy, and familial genetics with respect to facial aging. A photo would be very helpful in determining if you are a viable candidate for this procedure. A consultation with a plastic surgeon who does a lot of buccal fat procedures would be best. I hope this was helpful!Thomas Taylor, MD, FACS

Answer: Buccal fat removal Dear dubon11,you might be a good candidate for a buccal fat removal but it is hard to tell without an examination. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery
