Bad anchor scar camouflage with tattoo. What should I do? (Photo)

I got tattooed to cover scars after my breast lift around the areolae. She also tattooed the anchor scars but several shades darker than my skin tone! The scars went from white to brown. So depressed!!! Now she's saying she can lighten it with lighter ink. Should I believe her and go back or should I run to the dermatologist for laser removal instead? Will laser turn it black?? I went to another tattoo artist a year ago who told me the color would turn black if I tried to laser it. help!?

Hi Tinkerbell.  You've discovered that matching the skin tone exactly with permanent makeup is difficult.  We have found the same because we have treated quite a few patients that have also tried to cover scars with makeup and now want it removed.  It is fairly likely that if we treat the permanent makeup with laser that it will darken initially.  This is normal for many types of permanent makeup ink and the process after this happens remains the same...we just keep removing the ink with lasers.  For an example of permanent makeup removal in Los Angeles, click on the link below.

Laser treatment will cause the ink to darken initially, but continuing laser treatments will help to lighten the ink.  If you are considering laser, I would not do any more lighter ink since it will only complicate the laser removal.  In good health, Dr. Keel
