I have my preop appointment next week (3 weeks before surgery) for a correction of a deviated septum. Is it too late at that point to ask my doctor about adding another procedure (reduction genioplasty) to my surgery? Is 3 weeks too late in the game? is this unheard of?
Answer: Rhinoplasty and Genioplasty As long as the surgeon has time on his schedule the day of your surgery, it is not improper or too late to ask about adding a procedure. Rhinoplasty and different types of genioplasty are frequently done in conjunction with each other. The important thing is to get in to see him/her for an evaluation as quickly as possible so both you and the surgeon can decide. As long as you have a board plastic certified surgeon that is well trained in rhinoplasty and facial anatomy you should be fine.

Answer: Adding additional procedures Hi Michelle Vasquez and thank you for your question. I would say that it is not too late to ask about additional procedures to your surgery. I would certainly discuss this with your doctor and depending on how you are scheduled, your surgeon may need to add extra time to your operative case or potentially change your scheduled day. Be sure to discuss all of the benefits and risks of the procedure with your surgeon. I have had patients that desired to change their operative plan after having time to think about it outside of the office and it simply required additional planning for both parties. It is nice to be able to combine procedures to allow for overlapping recovery periods. Good luck!

Answer: Adding procedures during pre-op In many cases, you can add to your scheduled procedures during the preop appointment. Whether or not you can add the procedure is mostly dependent on scheduling. If your surgeon has time in the OR to add the additional procedures on your scheduled day, adding on can be done. During your preop appointment, make sure you have adequate time to talk to your surgeon about the new procedure you would like to add. Go over the goals of the procedure as well as any potential risks or complications. It is very important to understand all of these things, especially when adding a procedure at "the last minute." Best of luck!

Answer: Adding procedures at the pre-on appointment It is certainly acceptable to add procedures at the preoperative appointment. In our practice, the pre-op appointment is with one of our nurses, not the physician. Make sure you speak with your surgeon about additional surgical procedures, during the pre-op or an additional consultation..
