Would Eyelid Surgery to make my eyes wider? (photos)

Upper eyelid surgery is designed to basically create a fold which produces a double eyelid.  Tightening of the upper lid muscle can lift the eyelid margin to increase the distance between the eyelids and show more white sclera. With a large iris (colored part of the eye) raising of the lid margin may result in diffficulty closing the eyelids and associated symptoms.   Extreme care should be taken in preoperative planning to avoid this result.   Eyelid surgery is delicate and requires precise planning.  Please consult in person with an experienced Board Certified Plastic Surgeon prior to making treatment decisions. Asian blepharoplasty is a procedure that allows the surgeon to create a crease in your upper eyelid. With this procedure, your will look more open eyed. There are additional procedures to enlarge the eye as well. Once you have a crease, it will be easier to apply makeup.

Thank you for your question.You have typical asian eyelids that either have an internal supratarsal crease or completely lacks this crease. Approximately 50% of asians don't have this crease. Upper eyelid surgery will make your eyes look wider and bigger. It will also create a fold so thatyou don't have to use eyelid tape. In your case, you specifiy that you'd like more white to show in your eyes. You also state that you'd like wider eyes so it'll be easier to put in contact lens. Unfortunately, upper eyelid surgery can make your eyes appear wider, but will not make more of your white conjunctiva show or make it easier to put in contact lens. Be careful and wary of surgeons who claim they will be able to make your eyes open wider or make more of your sclera show. Also, be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon with experience in asian eyes. Hope this helps.
