At my practice, I commonly send my patients to get a CT scan in order to get the exact positioning of a previous chin implant. I also use a CT scan when designing custom implants. I hope this helps!
I like a 3-D CT scan to evaluate the position of the implant. It will show up on the scan and in 3-D it can be evaluated in several dimensions. Good luck
Dear h_s_84,A facial CT scan would be the best test to show the position of a chin implant. Ask your surgeon to order this for you. Best regards,Nima Shemirani
dear patient: you might want to get a CT Scan and your physician can write a prescription for it! A facial CT scan might run a little expensive. Hope this helps
Dear h_s_84,X-ray are a good imaging technique for bones, they will not show the implants properly. A high quality CT scan or an MRI is required for a visualization of chin implants, but they are expensive imaging techniques. You might consider a consultation with another plastic surgeon if you aren't satisfied with the current one. Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. A 3D CT scan will show unequivocally all aspects of your chin implant including its precise location on the bone.
The implant is "in place" in the sense it is centered and sitting over your chin, but it is not angled properly (too low) and is a poorly chosen shape for your face as noted from your photos.
This question is difficult to answer because you did not post any pre-operative photos to compare. I would return to your surgeon and express your concerns, You always have the option of having the implant removed and/or getting a second opinion. Good luck
Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years. If the chin implant is silastic, this is an inert material and would not cause an allergic reaction. You should be evaluated by your Chin Imp...
I would not recommend massaging your chin after the placement of an implant. The bruising and swelling you see is self-limiting and should go away on its own. Massaging and manipulating the chin does risk moving the chin implant out of its position before it's had a chance to fuse to the...
You can have the implant easily removed and your chin should return to its pre-existing appearance. It sounds like your chin implant has migrated or was placed asymmetrically. I have removed several chin implants that have migrated following placement. I prefer to secure them by placing a...
Typically, the facial fullness and 'roundness' we see, relates to the lack of prominence of the lower face/jawline. When the jawline is 'weaker / less wide/defined', the focus is on the cheek fullness. So the usual key is not the reduce fullness (aging effect); but to properly balance the...
Sliding genioplasty is usually performed by oral surgeons, not plastic surgeons. The genioplasty sometimes performed the upper jaw , the lower jaw, or both which requires expensive knowledge of how the teeth fit together. For purely cosmetic purposes a chin implant is performed, which will n...
