Question

How long on average does a wound this size take to heal. And how long after starting treatment should I expect to see any changes. I started teating it 6 days ago after seeing my PS. I am using silvadene with gauze pad changes twice to three times a day.Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your question!  This is an unexpected, but not uncommon complication from breast reduction procedures.  The most likely location for wounds such as this is exactly where you have yours - the 'T' portion, as the three corners converge in this area and is at the most susceptible to breakdown as it is the most devascularized at this point.  Your wound appear clean with some healthy granulating tissue beneath.  It appears that your plastic surgeon has evaluated this and deemed it unnecessary for any further debridement or surgical intervention.  This will likely be treated well via local wound care, as you are doing.  Typically, if it continues to progress as expected, you should see results within 4-8 weeks.  Hope that this helps! Thank you for the question.Wound healing depends on lots of factors like patient's immunity, smoking status, medical problems and etc. If there is no limiting factor for wound healing, my guess is that this wound may heal in about 2 months or so.

The "T" incision dehiscence can take 30 to 60 days to heal in most cases. Continue local wound care...

I'm sorry to hear about the complication you are experiencing. As you are aware however these wound healing problems can occur after breast reduction surgery;  with local wound care,  these wounds generally go on to heal over the course of the next 4-8 weeks. If the wound is clean and does not need debridement ( cutting out of dead tissue), it can possibly heal within 6-8 weeks.

Sorry you are having the problem, but that sometimes happens after a reduction. The treatment you describe sounds just right and the wound looks very clean in the photo. It will probably take 6-8 weeks and as it heals you will notice the final scar will be much smaller than the wound you see now.
