Upper lip discolouration after laser hair removal, is it melasma or PIH?

Doctor says it's melasma since i already have on the cheeks.But, can you be sure? darkening is in the same pattern as laser was applied.. so, good chance it can be PIH too? it may disappear with lightening treatment and never return unlike melasma? what do you suggest from your experience?

I agree with Dr. Johns that it is difficult to say without a picture.  In my opinion and experience it may represent hyperpigmentation after your treatment.  Hydroquinone and /or kojic acid may be helpful.

If you developed this after laser it could be both.  Regardless, they are typically treated the same and needs a combination of other lasers, skin lightening, and needling with sun protection and heliocare.  Best, Dr. Emer.

If you have Melasma treat both first with lightening cream containing hydroquinone and or Konica acid .A good safe approach for any color of skin is the vi peel .Expect about one week of redness and possible follow up peel in 3-6 months
