I had Vaser Lipo done in Feb 2015 on my abs and inner/outer thighs. Six months later I had a huge lump on my stomach and uneven inner thighs, so my surgeon agreed to touch up. It's been 4 days since I did my abs and first they were flat and I was so excited, but today it looks like I've got a bump growing again... I've already done 3 sessions of manual lymphatic drainage massage (1 before, 2 after) and wonder if I should do anything else to ensure a smooth result?

Answer: Lumpy results, revisions and after care As I'm sure you know, lumpiness and early uneven contours are common after liposuction. This is especially true after revision liposuction. When revisions are done, the areas are purposely treated unevenly in order to correct for the previous uneven procedure. In other words, during a revision, areas that are too full are treated more aggressively, and areas that may have been over-liposuctioned are not treated at all. This inevitably leads to an early uneven contour that should, if the procedure is done correctly, lead to a smooth, even contour for your final results.I don't personally believe there's anything that can be done to change the results of liposuction once the procedure has come to a completion. It's not possible to manipulate final fat distributions by postoperative manual manipulation. I personally do not believe massages are indicated after liposuction, but many surgeons do. I know of no science supporting benefits from post-liposuction massages. For my own patients, I tell them it's OK to engage in any activity that does not cause discomfort after liposuction but to avoid anything that causes discomfort. If your procedure was done correctly, then good results will follow. If the procedure was not done well, then less-than-ideal results will be the outcome. Let's hope for the former.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
