Mole removal begins with a comprehensive examination and consultation to determine the likelihood of a mole being worrisome. Excisional and incisional biopsies are reserved for suspicious moles. But it’s good news that most moles are not problematic and are only cosmetic, thus leading to the option of scarless or non-surgical mole removal with lasers and RF and plasma. Thank you for your question and photograph. There are multiple different techniques to remove a lesion. The spot can be shaved off, which would leave you with a circular, slightly indented scar similar to a chicken pox scar, and the possibility of the lesion returning. The other form of removal would be an excision, which would leave you with a linear scar. Other cosmetic options include laser treatment. I highly recommend you consult with a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to have your lesion evaluated and to discuss treatment options that best suit your needs.
