Derma roller on my face - is it doing more harm than good?

Question

I use a 1.5mm needle on forehead, glabellar lines and around my mouth and chin. My face is red and inflamed for about 2 days afterwards followed by peeling skin. Is this causing damage and not helping my wrinkles? Should I use a smaller needle size?

Thank you for your question! It is risky to use derma roller at home without supervision of an expert. The equipment needs to be sterile and done with right intervals and adequate aftercare treatment. If there is no severe scarring, smaller needle would deliver better results. Moreover, certified providers can use growth factors to stimulate healing. I would advise you not visit dermatologist to make sure that your skin will heal properly. Moreover, in the future consider anti aging treatments done by board certified physician. Best of luck!

You do not have to penetrate very deeply to reach the keratinocyte, a cell that is in the superficial layers of the skin, to release several key growth factors that facilitate ideal skin rejuvenation. We are seeing excellent results with needle lengths of 0.25 to 0.5 mm. For skin rejuvenation, we also combine motorized micro-needling with application of ProCell Therapies' concentrated human growth factor serums made from human stem cells. Micro-needling creates micro-channels in the skin which enhance penetration of topical serums and medications which can dramatically increasing their effectiveness. Up to 80% of product can penetrate the skin compared to 7 to 10% with normal topical application.Longer needle lengths can create more tissue damage, swelling and bleeding which can adversely affect penetration of these serums. Also, rollers create a more erratic pattern of "tears" through the skin rather than the clean, more evenly distributed punctures seen with the motorized micro-needling machines.
