If the liposuction was conservative, you may be able to go back to working out in a short period of time. Whenever there is more liposuction performed and more fat is removed, the time period will be longer. Your surgeon should address this with you.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
Yes, after resting for a couple days, it is ok to gradually get back into resistance training after Smartlipo. It is important to stretch and foam roll and also gradually resume cardio-type training. I often recommend guidance from a personal trainer after a Smartlipo procedure.Good luck!
Thank you for your question. I typically advise my patients to wait a couple of weeks before lifting weights. That is unless the region treated was relatively small. The reason for this is that by lifting weights, your blood pressure and heart rate will increase thus increasing bruising and swelling post surgically. It is not a bad idea to stretch and perform mild exercises though, especially walking after the Smart Lipo. This will increase circulation and help to mobilize fluid retention thus speeding up recovery. Hope this helps!!
After Smartlipo it is best to wait at least oneweek with no heavy lift and exercising. Continue to wear your compressiongarment and take it easy for a few days. When you start working out againlisten to your body, don’t push yourself.
You can certainly lift weights after having Smartlipo whenever you feel comfortable to do so. Be aware that you will get some periodic swelling over the liposuction treated areas for the first few months after surgery when strenuous activities.
In most cases, it should not be a problem to lift weights. It depends on what part of your body is operated upon and the time after your surgery. Areas that were not operated upon would not be a problem. As for the operated upon areas, it will depend on your sensitivity so you can lift comfortably. In addition, the specific technique might preclude you from lifting too early in the healing phase.
In many instances, liposuction can be performed on a person that is a breast cancer survivor. Best to check with your doctor.
Laser-assisted liposuction (or Smart Lipo as it is commonly known) uses laser light to heat and destroy undesired fat. This fat is then removed by conventional (vacuum) liposuction. The added benefit to Smart Lipo is the skin tightening effect. Much like laser skin resurfacing, the Smart Lipo...
Smartlipo will not damage any nerves; if anything you will feel slight numbing sensation. This feeling will eventually go away within the next few weeks; give yourself time to fully heal.
