Why am I not seeing results with lip fillers?

I have spent over $3,000 on lip fillers. I started off with Restylane and had 3cc injected over a period of 2 months. After I noticed that Restylane wasn't working, I went to another doctor, and she injected Perlane into my lips. I have had 2cc of that injected. I swell for about 2 days, and once the swelling is gone, there are no results! I have taken before and after photos, so it isn't that I am becoming accustomed to seeing myself with larger lips and thinking there isn't a difference.

Volbella, Restylane, and Juvederm are good fillers to use to create a symmetrical lip. NovaThreads can also be used to improve lift and shape. Implants or fat are alternatives. Technique will be important here, so you'll want to see someone meticulous. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer

You have indeed had a great deal of filler injected into your lips.  I would expect there to be quite a dramatic change from this treatment.  It is possible, but quite rare, for filler to be resorbed quickly in some patients.  If this is the case for you, consideration of a permanent implant would make sense.

I'm sorry to hear you aren't seeing the results you desire.  It would be helpful to see some photos or you in person.  There are other surgical methods of lip augmentation that your facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon could review with you such as Permalip implants, SMAS grafting to the lips, and lip advancement surgery. Based on the account given, a great deal of filler has been used for the purposes of lip augmentation.  A total of 5 mL of Restylane and Perlane over a several month time frame would give most individuals absolutely enormous lips.  Although a complete answer is not possible without an examination, a lip implant such as Advanta ePTFE may be a better option for an individual in your situation. I generally prefer the results that hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers produce over implants in the lips, but this is an unusual scenario.
