I’m due to get FUE next month appx 3500-400 grafts, and keep it shaved to this length with possible SMP to cover the doner area depending how thin it looks. Is this achievable?
Answer: If you are considering surgery it would be best to discuss your options with a doctor. FUE causes inevitable graft transection no matter how great the surgeon or technology (ARTAS, Neograft, SAFE system, etc). Due to the transections, 1000 FUE grafts will have LESS hairs than 1000 FUSS (strip) grafts. Many patients will accept this slightly less fullness (less hair) because they do not want a strip scar. The overall success of a hair transplant surgery depends on: (1) artistic and technical skill of your doctor and team (2) communication between you and your doctor to establish a realistic goal.

Answer: Density after FUE I think the question we should be asking here is whether one can actually safely remove 4000 grafts from you donor area via FUE. You will almost certainly be left with a moth eaten appearance. Scalp micropigmentation can not adequately cover the donor area especially after 1 year when the ink starts to run. Go to a clinic where you can actually have an in person honest examination without ‘guaranteeing grafts’

Answer: Adequate Density A good rule of thumb regarding FUE density: 2000 grafts will cover (and confer reasonable density to) an area approximating a CD/compact disc. Based upon your photos, you would likely need more than 2000 grafts to cover the thinning area of the crown and bordering frontal thinning. 3500 grafts is likely a more accurate reflection of your need. That being said, it is uncommon to achieve graft counts as high as 4000 in a single session. Additionally, your goal photos demonstrate greater than average density throughout. You may want to explore the idea of a staged procedure with max harvest. Patients need to remember that at most 10-15% of the follicles in a donor area can be harvested before the donor site begins to thin out.As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS) with experience in hair restoration.

Answer: Density The density that you target for the recipient area depends upon the donor supply. The density in your idea photo, is higher than 4000 FUE grafts can achieve. It is simple math, as 4000 grafts will give you about 9000 hairs and your balding area would have had more than 9000 hairs prior to losing it

Answer: Density with FUE According to the pictures of the donor area, the density on the crown will be less than the hairline and the mid-scalp. You should know that the graft removed from the back cannot produce hair on that zone as they remove them to the recipient area. The baldness area is larger than the donor area. if the surgeon will extract more than 3000 grafts for your case you will have a bald spots on the back and you cannot shave that short after the surgery. You need to be aware about the result if they remove 3500-4000 grafts. There is adifference between the density and covering the baldness.
