In my opinion, laser or light activated whitening is not a good treatment. The only good thing about it is that in some cases, you will have whiter teeth right away. However, a lot of the whitening effect is due to dehydration of the enamel (from the 2 hours your teeth are isolated). Once the teeth re-hydrate with saliva after 24 hrs, some of the effect will go away. The teeth may stay ligher for a while but with- in 6 months, you'll be back to where you started. Also, the gel used is very strong (up to 35%) and can cause sensitivity and leave the teeth prone sucking up stains for a couple of days. If you did not consume anything with color, and keep your teeth clean, then maybe you used a rinse, or smoked. It is much better and cheaper to whiten your teeth at home with custom made trays. You can control it better and achieve a much lighter shade by a gradual daily whitening. Also, after initial whitening for 1-2 weeks, you can then touch-up for 3-2 nights to maintain it. Research has shown that the laser or light does not enhance the whitening. The whitening was the same with or without the light. It's the gel that does the trick. Hope this helps Dr. T
Sorry to hear you are having a problem after whitening your teeth. Just to be clear, laser whitening does not work for everyone. It depends how dark your teeth are, your oral hygiene, the system that was used. Also important is the at home maintenance, did you get take home trays after the procedure. Hope this helps
Meticulous oral hygiene is a MUST! In the first 24-48 hours following any whitening procedure, the teeth are very susceptible to staining! BRUSH, BRUSH, BRUSH & FLOSS! Avoid any colored foods or liquids in that period as well.
After care is essential in whitening teeth. While whitening the dental tubules open and remain open for 48 hours. This means they are just as prone to whiten, Hence your teeth get whitened with the bleaching creams, as they are very prone to get stained soon after your whitening session is over. It is essential that you refrain from consuming anything of color for 48 hours, and if you do consume anything of color, you have to BRUSH and rinse with clear water after every time you drink or eat.
One of the reasons why teeth whitening should be done by a dentist rather than at the mall is to solve issues like these. If you have had the front fillings for a while, then the yellow color is not likely to improve a lot. If these are fairly new fillings (for example, a few months old),...
Sensitive teeth can be caused be a number of different causes. Generally the toothpastes that have some whitening effects or stain fighting effects are prone to cause MORE sensitivity. The stains on the front of your teeth appear to me like old bonding that has discolored from both aging and...
Having red hair has absolutely nothing to do with the color of your teeth. Your teeth will look yellow if you do not see a dentist and have regular check ups and cleanings. They will also look yellow if you smoke. You have researched whitening systems. Your general dentist probably...
