I have scar camouflage for areola scarring after Breast Reduction. Am I a candidate for cover up tattoo? (photo)

I had a breast reduction in 2010. I am happy with the total result except for the scarring and lighter pigmentation around the areola. I already had a scar revision in 2012 with the same result. I cannot do much about the raised portion of the scarring, but am considering reducing the appearance/camouflaging the scars with medical tattooing. Am I a viable candidate that can expect good results?

From your photo it would appear that you are a good candidate for camouflage tattooing of your scar. Go to an experienced medical tattoo artist that has experience in areolar tattooing. Your plastic surgeon should be able to refer you to one.

If you have had revision surgery already then tattooing would be a good option. Tattooing on scar tissue is less predictable than normal skin and I would make sure you consult with someone who has experience in tattooing on your skin pigment and can show you pre and post op examples of what ca be achieved.

It seems like you're a good candidate for this kind of tattoo, although you should check with your plastic surgeon first to be sure and, possibly, to get a recommendation from him or her for someone in your area who does this.  Remarkable things can be achieved with medical tattoos, particularly after mastectomy and nipple/areola reconstruction (or instead of!) and there's no reason for you not to consider that.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of RealSelf100
