I have dark red/purple marks or dots from laser resurfacing all over my face, is this normal? (Photos)

Question

It is beneath the skin and looks sort of like bruising. I am worried it looks like permanent damage since this is day 3 after the treatment and the redness of these marks have not subsided. Please help!

I would encourage you to schedule a follow-up with your provider for a full, in-person assessment and treatment recommendations.There are steps you should be taking after a laser procedure to protect the skin and promote healing. Your doctor can advise you on what steps will work best for you and whether additional treatment might be necessary to address this new symptom.

I recommend following up with a cosmetic dermatologist for after care recommendations. We have a specific protocol. I recommend skin care with vitamin c, b5 hydrator, silicone based scar gels with growth factors and enzymatic washes with papaya enzyme to give improvement. PDT therapy can calm inflammation. Sun protection is essential. Lasers work best in combination with other treatments in order to improve the skin's texture and collagen. I recommend adding fraxel lasers, microneedling/prp and radiofrequency treatments. Best, Dr. Emer

Your dermatologist or plastic surgeon will be able to diagnoses this and treat it accordingly. It looks like rosacea, but irritant or contact dermatitis needs to be excluded.
