Could you please share your general protocols regarding the use of Kenalog (steroid) injections after rhinoplasty? Specifically: • What is considered the optimal timing for the first Kenalog injection post-op (e.g., weeks/months after surgery)? • What spacing interval is typically recommended between multiple injections, if needed? • Based on your clinical experience, is there a difference in effectiveness if injections are given earlier (1–6 months post-op) versus later (12+ months)? • Are there any important considerations to be aware of in terms of risks or benefits? I am seeking general information about best practices for swelling reduction and scar tissue prevention following rhinoplasty. I am thick skinned, oily skin and ethnic. Thank you!

Hello and thank you for your question. The final results take at least 1.5 years for the swelling to fully resolve. This can require lots of patience and waiting. Steroid injections performed by your surgeon can be extremely helpful. I usually start steroid injections around 1 to 2 months after surgery and continue as needed. I will often also inject steroids right as the splint comes off. With that being said, the final outcome will really depend on the surgical techniques that your surgeon used during your surgery. I recommend that you maintain close follow up with your surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

We do not have firm protocol when it comes to rhinoplasty. It is treatment that we provide as needed. In some cases , where significant scar build up is expected, it is delivered intraoperatively and continued as needed. We try to limit its use to 3 applications max. Hope this helps.
