In what situations would you not have it cover the entire tooth? There’s a large gap between my crown and gum line. It’s visually noticeable when I smile. The dentist said that he didn’t want to bring the crown down to the gum line because of the amount of healthy tooth that is there. Food is constantly getting stuck here. Any suggestions? This tooth always bleeds when I floss or waterpik.

You can definitely replace your silver crown with a porcelain tooth-colored crown. This will provide a more natural looking result that blends in seamlessly with your smile. However, if your current silver crown is still functioning properly, you should weigh your desire for beautiful aesthetics...
Unfortunately once the crown or porcelain is adjusted, it will be very hard to add porcelain back on. You will benefit if you have an uneven bite to see your dentist or an expert dentist to do a bite analysis and see if there are interference in your bite, or do you have a stable bite? Best of luck
