Your dentist will need to cut off your old sliver crown and for you for a new white crown. Absolutely OK to do. We dentists do that all the time with success.
Unfortunately once the crown or porcelain is adjusted, it will be very hard to add porcelain back on. You will benefit if you have an uneven bite to see your dentist or an expert dentist to do a bite analysis and see if there are interference in your bite, or do you have a stable bite? Best of luck
