Losing hair after dengue - telogen effluvium?

Significant trauma like an illness or high levels of stress can cause hair loss. If the hair was already prone to balding and would have been lost anyway, the accelerated loss cannot be reversed. However if the loss was purely due to the trauma and not at risk of balding, then the hairs will likely grow back in several months.

Hair loss (teligen effluvium) is very common after dengue and can be dramatic. It lasts 6-9 months and usually grows back.

Hair loss after a prolonged illness can occur and in particular for people who have genetic balding, it will accelerate the process.
