Why am I being charged extra non-insurance covered fees for my crown?

The fees really depend on the region you're in.  If you don't understand the charge, or thing that it is unfair or incorrect, I would recommend giving the office a call to discuss with the person who prepared your treatment plan.  If you are given answers that sound reasonable, then great.  However, if you are given answers that are puzzling to you, then I would seek a second opinion at another office.  Good luck and I hope this helps. That is a very good question.  Have you discussed it with your dentist?  Insurance fees are often way behind the times.  There may be only a few dollars difference in their payment for the use of gold even though it may cost many, many dollars more to use.  Your choice may be to pay the difference or ask for semi-precious, non-allergenic metal.  Discuss this with your dentist...and if you choose precious...ask to see the lab bill and just pay the cost of the gold in addition to any co-pay.

I have not seen a crown fee handled this way. The code 02750 says high noble which is precious metal so I cannot see why there would be an aditional fee. there are other codes to use if not using gold or high noble or precious metals. I don't know what the porcelain facing fee is...I know my laboratory charges an additional fee if I request a porcelain margin on my crown rather than a metal one, but it is only $20-40 more. Sit down with your dentist or the insurance person at the office and go thru exactly what you are getting and what they are charging you for. you can always get a second opinion and quote if you don't feel comfortable with the response you get.
