Hello I had a beard transplant 10 months ago. I did not like the shape of the transplant on my right side. The line was too high and very uneven. I had a new line created at the barber. But you can still see the line where the hairs were transplanted and it’s very harsh. Is there a way to have the hair removed and/or skin healed?
Answer: Resurfacing lasers can help even out skin texture caused by scaring. Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Melarase AM, Melarase PM, and Melapads can seriously improve surface sun damage and UV related pigmentation. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: Options for Scar Removal I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing after your beard transplant. Here are some options to consider for scar removal and hair removal to improve the appearance of your beard transplant area: Hair Removal Options: 1. **Laser Hair Removal:** - **Description:** This method uses laser technology to target and destroy hair follicles, preventing future hair growth. It's particularly effective for reducing unwanted hair in specific areas. - **Considerations:** Multiple sessions may be required to achieve the desired result, especially for facial hair. Consultation with a dermatologist or a specialist in laser hair removal is essential to determine suitability. 2. **Electrolysis:** - **Description:** This technique involves inserting a tiny needle into each hair follicle and using an electric current to destroy the follicle. - **Considerations:** Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method and can be time-consuming and more painful compared to laser hair removal. It is effective for all hair types and skin tones. Scar Treatment Options: 1. **Topical Treatments:** - **Silicone Gels or Sheets:** These can help to flatten and soften scars over time. They are usually recommended for daily use over several months. - **Scar Creams:** Products containing ingredients like onion extract, vitamin E, or hyaluronic acid can help improve the appearance of scars. 2. **Microneedling:** - **Description:** This procedure uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating collagen production and improving the texture and appearance of scars. - **Considerations:** Several sessions may be needed, and it’s best performed by a trained professional. 3. **Laser Resurfacing:** - **Description:** This advanced technique uses laser energy to remove the top layer of skin, promoting the growth of new, healthier skin. - **Considerations:** It can be effective for reducing the appearance of scars, but it requires downtime for healing and may need multiple treatments. 4. **Chemical Peels:** - **Description:** Chemical solutions are applied to the skin to remove damaged outer layers, improving the appearance of scars. - **Considerations:** The depth of the peel will determine the extent of the improvement and the recovery time. 5. **Steroid Injections:** - **Description:** These are used to reduce inflammation and flatten raised scars. - **Considerations:** This treatment is typically used for hypertrophic or keloid scars and may require multiple injections. 6. **Surgical Revision:** - **Description:** In some cases, minor surgical procedures can be performed to remove or reduce the appearance of scars. - **Considerations:** This is usually considered when other treatments are not effective and should be discussed with a plastic surgeon or dermatologist. Next Steps: 1. **Consult a Specialist:** Schedule a consultation with a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon who specializes in hair removal and scar treatment. They can assess your specific situation and recommend the most appropriate treatment options. 2. **Patch Test:** If you opt for laser hair removal or other treatments, ensure a patch test is done to see how your skin reacts. 3. **Follow Post-Treatment Care:** Adhere strictly to any post-treatment care instructions provided by your healthcare provider to ensure optimal results and minimize complications. Each person's skin and healing process are unique, so a tailored approach based on professional advice will yield the best results.
