I have the typical Indian black mouth. I’ve gotten my bloodwork checked and everything is normal. When I ask doctors they say it’s fine, but of course the doctors I’ve asked are white and do not know how to handle Indian skin. Will a chemical peel get rid of my Indian black mouth? All I want is for my skin to be even and not have a 5’oclock shadow around my mouth. When I say even skin I mean one color, like how Spanish people have even skin.

There are treatments and treatment approaches that may help you. What you don't need is a doctor who has an empathic brake and can't understand your concerns. All care really must be based on a thoughtful personal examination. There is a significant role for careful sun protection. Mild chemical peels that do not stimulate hyperpigmentation is helpful. The newer pico duration 532nm ND:YAG and 755 Alexandrite laser are being used by dermatologist to carefully target pigment. The ultra short durations pulses are less likely to stimulate post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It starts by finding the right dermatologist. Look for someone who is interested in providing care for skin of color and understands your concerns.
