Any suggestions to make my chin appear smaller and more feminine? (photos)

I think my appearance could be improved by possibly some jaw surgery or botox to make my jaw appear smaller and more feminine. I also feel like my chin protrudes quite a bit, especially when I smile. I would like my face to appear slimmer and less round. Any suggestions?

A small amount of a neuromodulator, such as Botox or Dysport, will slightly relax the bulking around your jaw. The Botox will be injected directly into the masseter muscle, which opens and closes the jaw. This will allow it to relax and create a slenderizing effect on your lower face. You will need to maintain your results with re-treatments a few times a year. Please consult a board-certified dermatologist who has expert injection technique because it is essential to create a more flattering and feminine jawline without impairing the masster muscle's function.

Thank you for the question and your photos. There are many options for treatment of a larger chin. The most obvious is surgical reduction -- basically shaving down some of the bone.  This is done through a small incision under the chin.  Less aggressive and temporary options, however, involve the use of small amounts of Botox to weaken/shrink the muscles and use of fillers to camouflage the contour. borntbd: I agree your chin is a little overprojected on profile view.  It would be possible to remove some of the bone which would soften your profile.  Make sure your surgeon has experience with chin implants (even though this is the reverse of a chin implant) as he/she will be experienced with the anatomy and what looks nice.You should be aware that reducing bone in your chin will minimally reduce the stretch on your neck skin, so you may get a little more fullness of the skin between the chin and neck. Before considering surgery I would seek the opinion of a cosmetic dermatologist with expertise in neuromodulation and fillers.  To make your chin appear less pronounced when smiling you can use fillers in the chin and prejowl area to soften the curvature of the jawline and give the chin a less noticeable appearance.  Neurotoxin in the muscles of the chin may help when smiling but wont do anything for the appearance at rest.  If after trying conservative options, you are not convinced of the results, I would then seek the advice of a maxillofacial or plastic surgeon.  I wish you the best of luck, Dr. Emer.

Injecting the neuromodulator Botox into the jaw muscles, otherwise known as the masseters, will allow them to relax. Without the bulking of the muscles, your face will look slimmer. Consulting a board-certified dermatologist who is an expert at using Botox in the masseters is essential because you don't want to interfere with jaw function.

If you use Botox in your jaw muscles, they will relax and slim your face. That will create more of a heart shape, which tends to look very feminine and lovely. As for your chin, it is in line with your lips, and does not overly protrude. It is, however, a little sharp. A dermal filler such as Juvederm could give it a rounder, softer contour.
