I don't know if I want to have jaw surgery in the future but I definitely want to fix my weak chin. I would like to get a genio or a chin implant and then opt for jaw surgery maybe in the future. Is this possible or will it mess anything up?
Answer: Chin implant surgery? Without an exam your question cannot be answered. You will need to see an Oral/Maxillofacial surgeon to see if othognathic surgery, genioplasty or using an implant is best for your specific case. It should be noted that patients with severely weak jaws or abnormally functioning jaws may be better treated with other facial surgery (orthognathic surgery), although a chin augmentation may be an option at a later time. These patients should seek the advice of a plastic surgeon to determine which course is right for them. Here is some information to help you make this decision: Candidates for Chin Augmentation - Patients whose chin profiles are weak but have normally functioning jaws are candidates for Chin Augmentation. Many of these candidates have used injectable fillers in the past to strengthen the protrusion of their chins, but are looking for a permanent solution. If you are one of these patients, then you are a likely candidate for chin augmentation #weakchin #chinimplant

Answer: Chin Implant Later Jaw Surgery The chin implant is most often used to restore balance to the face because of a recessed, pointed or squared chin. It can help the nose look more proportionate on the face and create a more defined contour between the chin and the neck. Both the procedure performed under local anesthesia and recovery are quick, and the scar is hidden under the chin. If necessary to improve results, liposuction of the neck can be performed at the same time as the chin implant.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Chin implant vs Jaw Surgery The great things about chin implants is that they can very easily be removed with very little risk and pain. If you get a chin implant and you are happy that's wonderful, but if you decide you want to move to jaw surgery and completely correct the relationship of your upper and lower jaw to create a balanced profile that can be done regardless of the previous chin implant. If you are thinking you may have jaw surgery in the future make sure to get a chin implant and NOT a sliding genioplasty where the bone of the chin is moved.

Answer: Genioplasty The chin surgery can occur first; but the extent of it has to be balanced so it does not get 'overdone' simply to achieve a nice profile. All genioplasties should not be excessive anyway. So, yes, one can do it.
