I just got my first treatment of an IPL photofacial. So far my skin looks healthier and more even toned. I am 25 years old and for the most part my skin is pretty clear- I just wanted to have healthier and clearer skin and minimize some pores. After reading about this procedure I am terrified!!! Does it cause fat loss? Does it actually ruin the texture of some people's skin? I like the results but I don't think my skin is in bad enough shape to take on a procedure that has such risks!!

Answer: Is IPL Photofacial Safe? Thank you for your question. I have been doing IPL for the past 10 years, and have yet to see fat loss from IPL. If IPL energy was so good at reducing fat, there would be a machine on every block advertising fat loss from IPL. IPL can reduce brown discoloration and red vessels. If you don't have either of them, then you will benefit little. I hope this helps.

Answer: IPL photofacial is a safe procedure in experienced hands
IPL does not cause fat loss, and will improve the quality and tone of your skin when performed properly. In experienced hands, the chance of complications is minimal.
One thing to note is that not all "IPL" treatments are created equal. The machine used, the person performing the treatment, and the patient will determine the success of the procedure.

Answer: IPL Photofacial Safe?
IPL is completely safe as long as a trained medical provider who has experience with different skin types is doing the treatment. When using IPL in low setting it can help reduce the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles because it help produce and stimulate collagen beneath the skin. Using IPL for sun damage is also very safe and effected as long as the correct setting is used. I always advise to stay away from sun exposure before and after treatments and always apply an spf.
Wishing you the best

Answer: IPL Photofacial is a Safe Procedure that Removes Blood Vessels and Improves the Fine Texture of the Skin.
Dear Nikki, Thank you for your question, a very important one. IPL Photofacial is a very safe procedure. It is proven to destroy superficial blood vessels and stimulate collagen, therefore minimizing the appearance of fine lines and tightening open pores. IPL sources Do Not Cause fat loss. IPL sources consist of a concentrated beam of visible light which can only penetrate the upper layers of the skin. Their light wavelength does not allow them to travel deep in the skin, and much less to reach the deeper fatty tissue area. ***Please note: Years ago there was a device that combined IPL with a specific form of radiofrequency. The radiofrequency used at that time had a specific polarity and was set at high levels which may have caused some degree of fat loss. The IPL has never been linked to any kind of fat loss, but confusion still exists in many blogs where this earlier radiofrequency findings were linked to IPL mistakenly by patients.***. I want to reassure you that you should not see any fat loss from your IPL Photofacial. On the contrary, you will see many benefits from this procedure. Still, some side effects from IPL are also possible, like: transient superficial swelling and crusting if high energy levels are used and/or the patient's skin is tanned, as well as the development of dark patches if proper sun avoidance after IPL is not followed. I hope this information is helpful to you. Best wishes from Miami, Dr. Bowes
