Is Invisalign toxic?

Ok, so maybe im just panicking but I been wearing the product nearly 1 week now& aside from the sores in my mouth I've developed other side effects. I basically had a bit of a cold when I got them fitted so over the past few days I had a sore throat (which has now gone) & a tickly cough which is still ongoing. I also feel tired. I then reasearched invasalign & read some pretty horrific stuff about them being toxic & people getting odd side effects & ending up in hospital. I don't want to run to my dentist just yet as I stil may have some cold symptoms. I also suffer with anxiety so my increased heart palpatations could be to do with that. Im just really worried ive made a huge mistake getting them. I know on the bag of the aligners it says I rare cases people have allergic reactions but it didn't state what the symptoms were... Can I have some thoughts please? Thanks.

Hello there,After reading your question, I'd like to offer you some clarification and my opinion as to what is happening with you and your Invisalign treatment.  You mentioned that you had an apparent upper respiratory infection prior to and during the placement of your first Invisalign aligner.  I can tell you that your symptoms of sore throat (which is now gone) and your "tickly cough" are likely symptoms of a diminishing prior upper respiratory infection.  Many people think that they have allergies to certain drugs and/or materials, but often times they are not allergies at all.  In fact, an allergic reaction to a material being placed on your gums and teeth would not cause coughing, it would typically cause irritation at the site of placement.  In other words, your gums may become inflamed, your or blackened or develop ulcers if you were having an allergic reaction to the Invisalign materials.  You could also develop a red swollen throat and trouble breathing without some distress.  You could break out into hives and itch everywhere.  But just having a "tickly cough" while recovering from an upper respiratory infection is unlikely to be an allergic reaction.  In my ten years of providing Invisalign, I have NEVER heard of a single patient having a true allergic reaction to Invisalign.  Furthermore, I can tell you that ANYTHING that you Google will typically bring up someone in agreement somewhere with anything you can think of, no matter how unlikely it is.  However, many things online are inaccurate and misleading.  When I finish writing this answer, I'm going to Google, "How to get rich in 1 month."  And I bet they'll be millions of advice pages. lolRest assured that you are okay and if symptoms persist, just make an appointment with your primary care physician for an evaluation of your suspected viral infection (not an allergic reaction).Good luck and click to "follow" me on Real Self, if you'd like more answers. Have you been
cleaning your alignment trays thoroughly? If you have been sick, we often throw
out our toothbrushes but may forget that bacteria or viruses still reside on
oral appliances. Consider soaking it in a glass of water with a tablespoon of
bleach for a few hours, then rinse it and scrub it well with a new toothbrush.
It is very rare for people to be allergic to the plastic material, so most
likely it is another factor causing your sore throat.

I would call your doctor and ask him/her to examine you to make sure you are not having an allergic reaction. It is very rare that people do have problems with their aligners. Hopefully you are better now.
