I had braces for 5 years as a teenager and when my orthodontist finally took them off he realized he had done a terrible job. I refused to put them back on especially since I was a senior in high school. Now I have a severe overjet. Will invisalign help my severe overjet so I can avoid using traditional metal braces?
Answer: Invisalign for overjet Based on your photo, you appear to be an excellent Invisalign candidate. You may require some IPR (inter proximal reduction) to make room for your teeth to move back into alignment, but you do not appear to need an extraction of a tooth to create room. I am sorry that you were not happy with your orthodontist, but I would recommend researching a cosmetic dentist and their before and after photos to make sure that they are capable of delivering the results that you consider fantastic, not just okay. Good luck to you and I hope this helps. You can "Follow" me on Real Self to ask more questions.Sarah Thompson, DMD

Answer: Will Invisalign Correct Severe Overjet? Invisalign might work but is not the most effective or efficient tool for fixing your specific situation. Fixing your overjet can be best accomplished surgically or with dental orthopedics. I would recommend dental orthopedics but this can only be done by a dentist/orthodontist well trained in dental orthopedics (not all are). Good luck!

Answer: Invisalign for failed orthodontic cases @ Forma I am sorry that you were not pleased with your dental work as a teenager. From your picture the canines look to be in a good position and your front teeth flare out.You are a good candidate for Invisalign which will pull back the front teeth.Metal braces are not neededPlease note that your upper jaw is slight;y forward to the lower jaw and that is how the teeth may sit. Some dentists do recommend 2 upper teeth extractions but that is a personal choice.

Answer: Severe overbite ... can Invisalign help Hate to hear stories like this! First question that needs to be answered is: why, after 5 years, was your overbite not fixed? Was your bone structure so severe that you need surgery? Did you not cooperate with elastic bands?, should you have had teeth extracted? Then you need to go to a different orthodontist and get a full evaluation of where you are NOW and then, and only then should a treatment plan be formulated . Only once you know what needs to be done should you pick the tools necessary to do it Invisalign, like braces, extractions, surgery, elastics is just a tool; used correctly for the right reason it works, used for the wrong situation and it will not work!
