Thank you for your question.  I like to use the Picosure laser which can remove 95%+ of a tattoo. It works best to remove dark colors such as black, blue, purple and green. It can take up to 6-10 sessions to remove a tattoo and the average cost per session to remove a large tattoo is $500-$1000. It is unfortunate that you form keloids and a test spot can be used on the dark ink (black) and a trial wait period of at least 3 months to see if you develop a keloid, as you seem to have developed this in the past.The many bright colors, reds oranges, yellows require different wavelength lasers. The black ink would be the easiest to clear with most laser technology, nanosecond or picosecond lasers. 

It can be removed by laser tattoo removal. Most tattoos take anywhere between 6 to 8 sessions to be completely removed. If you are prone to keloids there is a risk that you may suffer from them with this process. The safest thing to do would be to try the laser on a very small portion of the tattoo and wait for approximately 3 months to see if a keloid forms.
