Is Blepharoplasty safe on dark skin?

Question

Hi, I'am half african/french, I have skin type IV-V, I generally pretty good scar. I would like to do a blepharoplasty, I'm scared to have visible scar. Have you ever had a case on mixed or black skin ? What are the result, like caucasienne skin ?

Eyelid skin is thin and heals very well in most cases. Type of suture, wound tension or separation and  infection can influence the scar. Even though darker skin people more commonly form keloids in other areas, I have found it to be rare in this area. All scars require several months to remodel  and soften however. If you have a known history of keloids, it is best to consult a board certified  specialist for this area.

Thank you for the good question. Any skin color can have a blepharoplasty performed without fear of unusually scar formation. Even patients who form keloids elsewhere on their bodies usually do not have increased scarring on their eyelids. In our practice, we have performed  upper and lower blepharoplasty procedures on dark skinned individuals and has had no issues with the healing process.

I have performed blepharoplasty both upper and lower on many patients with darker skin tone and have not had any excessive scarring or depigmentation.

Blepharoplasty can be performed on dark or light skin. There is no contraindication for dark or light skin. Dark skin does have a tendency to take a little longer to heal in the incision line but that is usually hidden in the crease
