What's the best treatment to get rid of hyperpigmentation after laser hair removal? 1 year post op.

Hyperpigmentation can be improved with a combination of Cosmelan, lasers, Aerolase, microneedling/prp, skin lightening, peels, and skin care. Sun protection is essential. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

Hi,  I would recommend using a hydroquinone to be applied to the dark spots morning and night .  You willl have to be super cautious throughout the summer months using a good zinc based spf to the areas of concern.  I would also go back to the place that you got burnt and explain your situation.  They may have products treatments that help.  Without seeing you in person it’s hard to say of hydroquinone with Work 100%.  But it’s worth a try.

2. One step peels like cosmelan or more aggressive dermamelan peels

3. Last option would be a q switch laser.

It is important to seek treatment from a board-certified dermatologist who has both Alexandrite and a longer wavelength such as Nd:Yag or diode, who will be able to evaluate your skin and hair and choose settings that will permanently eliminate hair without burning or postinflammatory hyperpigmentation. Now that you have had this problem for a year or more, you will want to apply a properly formulated retinol and Glycolic acid cream, and possibly something called Lytera as well. It will eventually resolve with the proper care.All the best!
