I was excited to try Sculptra but was shocked to see the volume of people here on RS stating that it has ruined their face and lives. I understand how Sculptra works, I just would like to learn more about the risks. It seems that even with the most skilled injector, your body can react negatively to it even months later. I want to try Sculptra because I feel it will fix exactly what my face needs but these reviews are extremely concerning. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Answer: Hog wash Keep in mind that there are way too many providers without proper training, experience, and skill doing injections. Problems with Sculptra are not due to the unpredictable nature of the product in people, it is with the providers. Most people aren't aware that Sculptra was first FDA approved for non-aesthetic purposes: it was a filler for HIV positive men with severe facial fat wasting syndrome due to antiviral drugs. This population had virtually non-existent immune systems and they would receive on average 20-30 vials of Sculptra restore a normal appearance to their face. It was well tolerated and had a low complication profile. Sculptra is used far less that hyaluronic acid gels, so going to a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist WITH a lot of experience with Sculptra is a must. It is a much different product than the gels and the provider must have experience. I have used the product since its cosmetic approval by the FDA in 2007, and have had no lumps or other complications. I'm sure you can find a provider like me in your state.

Answer: Sculptra Expert Los Angeles...What are the risks associated with Sculptra? Hello Rayo, Sculptra is extremely safe and effective as an injectable collagen bio-stimulator. It is the same material that absorbable sutures are made of. As with any medical procedure, appropriate patient selection is important. Additionally, Sculptra must be prepared and injected properly by expert injectors to avoid problems. Patients whom I would not recommend Sculptra injections are those with Systemic Lupus Erythematosis (SLE) and those who have had problems with absorbable sutures not dissolving. It is also important to avoid dental procedures for at least two weeks following Sculptra injections. I have used Sculptra since 2009 without seeing any delayed reactions. In the extremely rare event of a delayed nodule reaction occuring, it can be taken care of by an expert Sculptra injector. As long as you have chosen a expert, go ahead and enjoy your Sculptra facial rejuvenation. Good luck and be well. Michael Persky, MD Encino, CA

Answer: Sculptra question I personally have been using sculptra since 1997 and have treated thousands of patients. It is not the product that is a problem or causes problem in patients, it is the so-called the “injectors” who have no idea what they’re doing. There are particular ways in which sculptra should be administered and particular areas on the face and body where it can’t be injected. If sculptra is what you need or want, you must find a Plastic surgeon who is well versed with it. I hope this helps and good luck from New York City Plastic Surgery. PS if you desire more volume in the face, don’t forget that your own fat taken from elsewhere on the body might be the best product available to date.
