Can you contract an STD from an improperly disinfected laser hair removal device?

Question

I am interested in pursuing a series of laser hair removal sessions for my bikini area at a local medical spa. Is there a risk of contracting STD's such as Herpes or HPV from such a procedure? How are the laser hand-pieces normally sterilized? What questions should I ask the practitioners regarding sterilization of equipment or other hygienic practices before committing to these treatments?

Hello, transferral of STD's through laser hair removal treatments is unlikely, however you do want to make sure you are going somewhere that is clean.  Go in for a consultation, look around and ask about their sanitation practices to ensure you feel comfortable.  Good luck!

Hello and thank you for your question. When visiting a medical spa or doctors office one of the first things you should look for is cleanliness.If you go to a reputable place I cant imagine you would need to worry about contacting anything.  All pieces of medical equipment should be sterilized.
