Will Fraxel help with the discoloration on my legs?

Fraxel Re:Store Dual can help resolve the age spots and discoloration on your legs. It takes about a 2 weeks to see results and sometimes needs to be combined with a Q-switched alexandrite laser for best results. You also may need more than one treatment as the legs improve and heal slower than the rest of the body. Consulting a board-certified dermatologist will help you get the best results, including matching the skin tone of  the untreated portion of your leg as best as possible.

Lower legs have a higher chance of postinflammatory hyperpigmenation than many other body sites. Fraxel Dual, 1927nm. and Permea lasers can reduce sundamaged skin that is brown but if the skin reacts to the inflammation from laser with production of a melanin (pigment) staining, it can leave the treated areas darker than before the treatment. Test spots with the Fraxel laser or q-switched ruby, alexandrite or Neodynium Yag lasers may be prudent. The new PicoSure laser can also treat these spots. HiI have had patients with sun damage and age spots in legs and responded to treatment with Fraxel. We have 2 months after 1st treatment, the response was pretty good.Downtime is minimal 1-2 days pinkish discoloration and hardly we see anyone with edema or other adverse events.Dual Fraxel laser is set to work only on pigmentation and/ or rejuvenation. Pigmentation on the legs is not as easy to remove as on the face. Fraxel will work, but it is time consuming and therefore expensive to perform. Fraxel charges the doctor to use the device based on energy used. I try to disuade patients from doing this procedure because it is not worth the effort. I promote peels and products for the extremities mostly. If there is a few isolated dark spots, those can be treated with a QS laser or Pico laser.

Fraxel will definitely work well for this discoloration on the face, arms, or legs. However, it generally takes three sessions to remove the sun damage on the legs spaced one month apart.  Please consult an expert in Fraxel for the best cosmetic results. Best, Dr. Green
