Can Laser Genesis make surgical scars darker? (Photo)

Hi Sephora. It appears that you may have some liposuction scars.  The first step in treating them at our practice is to soften them with Kenalog (a steroid) if there is any hard tissue under the skin.  Hard scar tissue will bind the color preventing removal of it so any hard scar tissue needs to be softened first.  After this, for red scars, a VBeam a or other pulsed dye laser would be the laser of choice.  Laser Genesis does not have the 858 nm wavelength that is most effective for removing red scars.  It may help, but it may also be why you are struggling with the pink areas.  Best of luck.

A combination approach will give the most improvement. These scars can be improved with a combination of Cosmelan, lasers, Aerolase, microneedling/prp, skin lightening, peels, and skin care. Sun protection is essential. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a scarring expert. Best, Dr. Emer
